Welcome to the Vintage Hot Rod Association

The VHRA is the national organisation for owners of traditional hot rods and customs.

We’re all about old cars that look like they may have caused havoc at a dirt track in the thirties, roared across a dry lake bed back in the forties, maybe tore up a dragstrip or two in the fifties, or perhaps just cruised the streets of Southern California taking their owners nowhere in particular. Needless to say there are a whole spectrum of styles, probably far too many to list, but if your car looks like it fell out of the pages of Throttle, an early issue of Hot Rod, or the Rod & Custom little pages, you’ll know exactly the kind of car we’re talking about.

To become a member of the VHRA, the first and most important thing is to own a car of pre-1949 manufacture, built in the style of a traditional hot rod or custom. We’re not just talking period perfect recreations, but also cars that evoke the true spirit of a bygone era. Old style cars modified using old parts. From mild customs, through to balls out race cars, they’re all welcome at the VHRA. The full criteria for membership is very simple and is explained in more detail over on the join page.

The VHRA is here to support, promote and represent hot rodding throughout the UK. We are a member of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs and through them kept abreast of any legislation that may affect our future. We are recognised by the DVLA and are on their database of Vehicle Owners Clubs, in addition to this we are also approved by VOSA for the purpose of engine identification for IVA tests. We have negotiated a preferential insurance deal with Heritage Insurance for VHRA members. We are also proud to sponsor the Flathead Meltdown, the bi-annual drag racing series for valve in block engined cars.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, then click here, have a read of the rules for joining, print off an application form and send us your details. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
