Welcome to the Vintage Hot Rod Association

The VHRA is the national organisation for owners of traditional hot rods and customs.

We’re all about old cars that look like they may have caused havoc at a dirt track in the thirties, roared across a dry lake bed back in the forties, maybe tore up a dragstrip in the fifties, or perhaps just cruised the streets of Southern California taking their owners nowhere in particular. If your car looks like it fell out of the pages of Throttle, an early issue of Hot Rod, or the Rod & Custom little pages, you’ll know exactly the kind of car we’re talking about.

The VHRA host two of the most revered events in hot rodding. The GOW! Speed Hill Climb at Prescott Hill, and the award winning Hot Rod Races at Pendine Sands. Both events have been acclaimed by members and the press alike and mark a new chapter in hot rod history. We also run the flag start drag racing at the Atomic Festival at Sywell Aerodrome, manage the Flathead Meltdown at Shakespeare County Raceway, and are a feature of the Autumn Classic which is held at the Bugatti Owners Club. Click on Events for more information.

We are here to support, promote and represent hot rodding throughout the UK. We are a member of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, and through them kept abreast of any legislation that may affect our future. We are recognised by the DVLA and are on their database of Vehicle Owners Clubs, enabling us to assist with registering vehicles. Additionally, we are approved by VOSA for the purpose of engine identification for IVA tests. We have also negotiated a preferential deal with Hagerty Insurance for VHRA members.

To become a member of the VHRA, you need to own a car of pre-1949 US manufacture, built in the style of a traditional hot rod or custom. We’re not just talking period perfect recreations, but also cars that evoke the true spirit of a bygone era. Old cars modified using old parts. From mild customs to race cars, they’re all welcome at the VHRA. The full criteria for membership is explained in more detail over on the Join page.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, then click here, have a read of the rules for joining, print off an application form and send us your details. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
